Iowa health system says safety violations resolved
Quality Improvement Monitor, October 12, 2007
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has resolved all safety violations outlined in a report that found the health system failed to report the deaths of nine patients who were in restraints, a hospital spokesman told the Associated Press (AP) this week.
The 132-page report was written by state inspectors who visited the Iowa City hospital on behalf of CMS, the AP reported.
The report found that nine patients died while in restraints since February. The hospital failed to report those deaths to CMS, AP said.
"There's no indication that the restraints played a role in the deaths of those patients,' hospital spokesman Tom Moore told the AP.
