Hospitals see volume decrease from ASC competition
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, October 2, 2007
Inquiry, a journal published by Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield in Rochester, NY, published a study in its 2007 summer edition that provided new information about ASC and hospital outpatient department (HOPD) competition, according to the Inquiry Web site.
Inquiry researchers based the study on data from the American Hospital Association's annual survey of hospitals and 2002 Medicare Online Survey Certification and Reporting Systems. Among the results, researchers found that each ASC per 100,000 people lead to a 4.3% reduction in the volume of HOPD cases.
