GAO report finds veterans' personal data and health information at risk
EHR Connection, October 1, 2007
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report September 19 that states the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) still needs to implement recommended safety measures. Without these measures, veteran's personal data and health information is at risk, according to a September 20 Washington Post article.
VA still has not secured department facilities and computer networks and has not yet taken steps to ensure that it authorizes any and all computer program changes..
According to the article, "Until VA addresses recommendations to resolve identified weaknesses, it will have limited assurance that it can adequately protect its systems and information," GAO said.
