Tip of the week: Get familiar with a new name

Infection Control Monitor, September 21, 2007

Infection control professionals may want to get familiar with a revamped version of a federal infection rate reporting system.

Nearly four decades since its inception in 1970, the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) system, designed by the CDC to track healthcare-associated infections, has a new name and has undergone a major overhaul. The CDC data-tracking system has been renamed the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The system already has 700 members.

To learn more about whether your hospital could benefit by joining, go to www.hcpro.com/content/75801.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
