County officials seek to boost KidCare enrollment

Managed Care Weekly Advisor, September 12, 2007

Officials in Lake County, FL, are encouraging families to insure their children with healthcare benefits from Florida KidCare by sending home applications with students.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, uninsured children under the age of 19 are eligible for the insurance program. Included in coverage plans are regular doctor visits, low-cost vision and hearing screenings, and immunizations. The average premium is between $15 and $20. The community health worker program is also raising awareness of the health plan availability and encouraging enrollment by sending workers into the community with laptop computers and signing up interested families.

Florida KidCare began in 1998 and covers more than 250,000 children statewide.
