President, Congress disagree on IT spending
EHR Connection, September 10, 2007
President Bush's proposed budget calls for a sharp increase on health IT spending, but House and Senate bills call for lower spending limits, according to an article in the August 30 Health Imaging News.
Bush's proposed budget for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONCHIT) includes $117.9 million for IT health in 2008, a substantial increase over this year's $61.3 million. A House bill already passed in July would maintain the current spending level, while the Senate Appropriations Committee bill would increase the ONCHIT budget by approximately $10 million to $71 million.
