Security guards protest safety conditions at hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, September 10, 2007
Security officers at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle took to the streets August 31, passing out leaflets through their union and accusing the hospital administration of failing to protect workers from violent patients, reported the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
The security officers say the hospital, which is run by the University of Washington, is not giving them the proper tools and training to do their jobs. But a hospital spokesman said the facility has a "very robust" training program that includes violence de-escalation techniques.
