Tip of the week: Surveyors expect hospitals to identify sensitive security areas

Healthcare Security Weekly, September 10, 2007

Don't make the mistakes other hospitals make by not expecting Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) surveyors to cite your facility for failure to identify sensitive areas of the hospital and to make plans for securing those areas.

Every hospital has some sensitive areas, such as locations of narcotics, money, or other items of value. It is the responsibility of the hospital to conduct a security assessment, designate the sensitive areas, create a plan to ensure the security of those locations, and then convey this plan to the staff members who work in those areas.
