CMS announces proposed conditions of coverage rule for ASCs
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 4, 2007
CMS issued a proposed rule August 24 that, if passed, will update the existing Conditions for Coverage (CfC) that all ASCs must meet in order to participate in the Medicare program.
According to CMS' press release, the proposed rule's CfCs include:
- Adding a new patient's rights condition to address disclosure of physician financial interests in the ASC, advance directives, the grievance process, and confidentiality of clinical records
- Expanding the infection control requirement to the condition level
- Adding a more comprehensive quality assessment and performance improvement condition (QAPI) that enables ASCs to take tailored proactive steps to ensure quality care
