Aetna, WellPoint, Humana, others roll out individual insurance packages

To address the fastest growing population of uninsured Americans -those in their 20s and 30s- insurance companies are offering unique health insurance packages. In addition to basic medical coverage, some enticements offered by Humana include teeth whitening and gym-membership discounts.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the companies are also interested in retirees too young to qualify for Medicare. Aetna and WellPoint plan to roll out packages for the 50- to 64-year-old age group in the coming months. The plans are available for low prices-Humana's start at $26 per month- because they drop services, such as maternity care and brand-name prescription drugs.

By using social networking sites, including MySpace, insurers are able to offer different levels of coverage, with plan names like Part-Time Daredevil, Calculated Risk Taker and Thrill Seeker.
