Study reports EHR implementation in 36 states for Medicaid patient records

EHR Connection, August 27, 2007

The U.S. Healthcare and Human Services (HHS) reports that three out of every four states have implemented EHR systems for Medicaid patients, according to Health Imaging News. Implementation is complete in nine states, and 27 more are completing the process.

Other healthcare IT projects, such as e-prescribing, remote disease monitoring, and Medicaid recipients' personal health records, are under way in three more states.

An HHS survey on state authorities revealed that states' implementation of healthcare IT is progressing. In its report on the survey, HHS urged the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue striving to achieve the Bush administration's goal of EHR for all U.S. citizens by 2014.
