Research center to encourage technology-assisted medication management

Several organizations and vendors recently created The Center for Improving Medication Management in order to promote and encourage e-prescription use among physicians, patients, and pharmacies, according to an August 16 HealthData Management article.
The Center hopes to launch a project that would demonstrate how certain features of e-prescribing and EHR systems can improve medication safety and use, and reduce labor costs.
The Center hopes to focus on the following, according to its Web site:
- Enhancing best practices as they relate to processing prescriptions electronically
- Improving patient compliance with physician medication orders by utilizing electronic communications between the patient, pharmacist, and physician
