Healthways sees vast potential in Medicare FFS market

Despite poor initial results in its Medicare Health Support (MHS) pilot, Healthways, Inc., sees a vast potential opportunity in the Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) market for disease management (DM) services, and therefore has decided to stay in MHS-even though the pilot itself may lose money. That's the word from Healthways executive vice president Robert Stone, who says that the company also weighed whether the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) would prefer to contract with organizations that have stayed in Phase I of MHS if CMS decides to expand to Phase II.
