Health Data Exchange Group project stalls

EHR Connection, August 20, 2007

Since 2003, the Portland, OR-based Health Data Exchange Group has hoped to implement a system for local hospitals and physicians to electronically share medical records. The group-formed by the Oregon Business Council and staffed by Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation-has hit financial obstacles over the past year, according to an August 10 Portland Tribune article.

The Oregon Business Council has spent almost $500,000 of its own money on the project, and the system would have cost approximately $3.4 million per year to implement. On top of these expenses, individual hospitals would have had to contribute $150,000 per year.
