Woman impersonating nurse hired by hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 20, 2007
An Oklahoma woman faces charges of false impersonation and practicing nursing without a license days after she was hired and then fired by Parkview Hospital in El Reno, reported Oklahoma City television station KOCO.
Police said the woman, Jennifer Drobil, claimed to have a nursing license from Michigan, which was in the process of being transferred to Oklahoma. Hospital officials said they hired Drobil while managers finished her background check. Preliminary checks of her references appeared OK, a hospital employee said.
Drobil worked with a registered nurse at the hosptial to care for patients, including babies, for several days. Hospital officials grew suspicious when they could not confirm her nursing license and called police. When she met with detectives, Drobil admitted she found the license number of another woman with the same name on the Internet and that's when the hosptial fired her, reported KOCO. Police issued warrants for her arrest and the Oklahoma Hospital Association warned its members about her.
