Tip of the week: Prepare now for emergency plan changes
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 20, 2007
Hospitals should be aware of the new emergency management rules from The Joint Commission that will take effect January 1.
One of the revisions comes under the new EC.4.11 (managing the consequences of emergencies), as the standard requires hospitals to communicate their vulnerabilities to response agencies and identify the capabilities of the community to meet hospital needs. This requirement was borne out of The Joint Commission's frustration with medical
centers' lack of planning with their communities, said George Mills, FASHE, CEM, CHFM, senior engineer at The Joint Commission.
To learn more about changes to the standards, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-74957.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their
