Mentally-ill man masquerades as doctor
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 13, 2007
The New South Wales government said it has increased security at a hospital where a mentally-ill man posed as a physician in the emergency department.
The man masqueraded as a doctor at Wyong Hospital in Australia in April, examining three patients before he was questioned by staff and ran off, reported ABC News. None of the patients were harmed, reported PerthNow. Staff told the news service that there are so many temporary fill-in physicians on emergency department rosters it is difficult for regular staff to spot an impostor.
