KidCare: Buy health insurance through automatic paycheck deduction

Enrollment in KidCare could be substantially boosted if parents pay for the state of Florida-subsidized health insurance with an automatic paycheck deduction.

KidCare is a subsidiary of Healthy Kids Corporation, and is meant to ensure healthcare coverage for children. An advisory panel headed by Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is working with the company to make the health program more accessible to families. Panel members say the management of KidCare by various state agencies is making that task more difficult.

Automatic paycheck deductions could make sure that children won't lose coverage because of nonpayment of premiums, so the panel is asking large corporations-such as Wal-Mart, Publix, and the Miami-Dade County school system- to extend the option to their employees
