Joint Commission names new president

The Joint Commission this week announced that Mark R. Chassin, MD, MPP, MPH, will become its next president, effective January 1, 2008.
Chassin is the Edmond A. Guggenheim professor of health policy and chairman of the department of health policy at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, and the executive vice president for excellence in patient care at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, according to a Joint Commission press release. Chassin also served as commissioner of the New York State Department of Health. He is a board-certified internist and practiced emergency medicine for 12 years.
At Mount Sinai, Chassin built a nationally recognized quality improvement program that focused on significantly improving all aspects of quality of care, the press release said.
