Study finds that EHR systems can pay for themselves in fewer than two years
EHR Connection, August 6, 2007
Astonishingly, EHR systems can potentially imbue enough cost reduction to pay for the cost of the system in under two years' time, according to a report in the July issue of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
The article entitled "A Pilot Study to Document the Return on Investment for Implementing an Ambulatory Electronic Health Record at an Academic Center," discusses the analysis of five ambulatory offices at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. On average, total annual savings were $14,055 per provider, and the total capital cost was $484, 577, according to the study.
