Rhode Island Health Information Exchange in the works

EHR Connection, August 6, 2007

The Rhode Island Department of Health announced July 30 that it granted the state's Medicaid fiscal agent a three-year contract for a first time statewide EHR network-the RI Health Information Exchange-according to the Providence Business News. The project is expected to go live in the summer of 2008.

The three year contract, which amounts to $1.7 million, will include the design, implementation, and management of this new network, which promises to merge RI residents' health information, and provide authorized health professionals with a more comprehensive PHR.

"With the creation of a statewide Health Information Exchange, doctors will be able to look up their patient's critical health information, giving them a more complete understanding of their patients and allowing them to provide higher quality, safer, more coordinated care," David R. Gifford, RI director of health, told the Providence Business News.
