Community benefit report crucial for Provena
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, July 13, 2007
Provena Health of Illinois is under fire from state officials, who say the six-hospital health system doesn't deserve its property-tax exempt status, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Provena maintains that the impact of its community benefit initiatives totaled $61.7 million. Provena's hospitals serve 750,000 patients at six locations in the state. Provena's Urbana location had its tax exemption status revoked in 2003, in light of allegations of aggressive attempts to collect money from the poor and uninsured.
