Anonymous blog draws fire from Texas judge
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, July 13, 2007
Since March 2005, an anonymous Web log writer has posted several pieces criticizing Paris (TX) Regional Medical Center. Now, Essent Healthcare, the Nashville-based owner of the hospital, is hoping a judge will order the blogger to reveal his or her identity, says Computerworld
The writer has been posting under the name Frank Pasquale, the same name as a law professor and blogger at Seton Hall University who writes about healthcare issues. The professor says he is not responsible for the Web site, called "The-Paris-site." Essent Healthcare filed a lawsuit against the site, alleging defamation and violation of HIPAA privacy laws.
In addition to the identity of Pasquale, the lawsuit also seeks the names of nine others who have posted comments to the blog. Essent claims that the postings on the Web site contain defamatory statements and disclose confidential patient health information.
