Website rates local hospitals on cardiac care
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, June 29, 2007
A new government Web site is giving Ohio residents access to information about how a hospital ranks in terms of treating those with a heart attack or heart failure. The site allows patients to see how hospitals in their area compare to hospitals nationwide or locally.
The hospitals are ranked in three grades: "better than the US national rate," "no different than the US national rate," and "worse than the national rate." As the baby boomer generation ages, more of the population is paying attention to health care, and the ability of patients to predetermine the right hospital is enjoying new popularity, according to WCPO news in Cincinnati.
Currently, the Web site is focused on just cardiac care, but it will eventually include data on doctor performance, responsiveness, and hospital cleanliness.
