Man pretending to be priest steals from patient

Healthcare Security Weekly, July 23, 2007

Hospitals and law enforcement agencies in East Texas are on alert for a man who pretended to be a priest and stole a credit card from at least one hospital patient.

The suspect approached patients at Kilgore's Laird Hospital in Kilgore, TX where a 78-year-old patient later found his credit card had been stolen, police told the Associated Press. The suspect was caught on security video at a Kilgore pharmacy, using the credit card to buy $800 worth of gift certificates.

Police said the man wears a collar and pretends to minister to his victims. Witnesses told police the man appeared to be praying with some patients.
