PPV: Hospital installs OpenVista in less than one year

EHR Connection, July 9, 2007

Open source software is an attractive option for facilities getting ready to make the switch to EHRs. This type of software, after all, is free. Eliminating some cost up-front is just what some organizations need to hear to get moving on their EHR projects. But nothing in life is ever completely free, and so far there haven't been many open-source success stories touting the cost savings.

William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital in Weston, WV, a 150-bed, acute-care psychiatric facility, implemented Medsphere's OpenVista EHR platform over the past year, a move that is helping to bring state-of-the-art technology into the hospital. However, Medsphere isn't free. The company is a commercial vendor that provides deployment and support services during implementation.
