Bomb squad examines two packages at hospital

Healthcare Security Weekly, July 16, 2007

The Louisville Metro Police bomb squad investigated two suspicious packages found July 2 at Kosair Children's Hospital, reported the Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY.

Police were called after an early morning call that a bomb was set to explode at a Norton Healthcare facility, a Norton spokesman told the newspaper. Officials searched all Norton facilities in downtown Louisville and found a suspicious package inside Kosair.

A security staff member took the package outside the hospital and the police bomb squad came to dispose of it, the newspaper reported. Several hours later, a second package was found in a parking garage next to the facility and the bomb squad again responded. Police said both packages were similar in appearance and contents.
