Tip of the week: Offer IC training to resident physicians

Infection Control Monitor, July 6, 2007

Many facilities introduce their resident physicians to infection control (IC) topics in a daylong orientation session.

"It's essentially infection control 101," says Barbara A. Smith, RN, ICP at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. The initial group session at her facility focuses on three main topics: hand hygiene, OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standards, and communicable diseases and isolation precautions.

To learn more about training residents, go to www.hcpro.com/content/72828.cfm. The cost is $10. Briefings on Infection Control subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
