AMA warns docs about blogging

EHR Connection, July 2, 2007

American Medical News (AMN), a physician newspaper published by the American Medical Association (AMA), is warning physicians about the possible consequences of blogging. It also provides tips to help keep physician bloggers out of hot water. According to AMN, many physicians don't realize that blogging isn't really as anonymous as it may seem, thus putting physicians at possible risk of malpractice lawsuits or patient privacy rule violations. The AMN cites the example of a physician whose blog was shut down after writing about his present liability case. The article suggests that physicians consult with their employers before beginning a blog to ensure that there aren't rules against doing so.
