CMS considering reducing savings guarantee for MHS pilots

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reportedly has asked the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) if it would be possible to lower the financial savings targets for the six remaining Medicare Health Support (MHS) pilots to make them more viable. This comes at the same time as a new data analysis of the pilots shows that the disease management (DM) efforts involved appear to work best in the subset of the MHS population that is less sick and potentially younger-confirming vendors' previous experiences with Medicare Advantage groups and showing that DM-at least in this form-may not be effective in very sick individuals with multiple comorbidities.
