Guard arrested after shooting at colleague outside hospital

Healthcare Security Weekly, June 25, 2007

No one was injured after a security guard at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. opened fire at another guard on June 20 outside a busy entrance to the hospital.

The two guards, who are employed by a private security firm under contract to Walter Reed, had been arguing just before the shooting that occurred about 8:30 a.m., police told the Associated Press.

One of the guards fired as many as 10 shots, according to police. The other guard, who was not hit, ran to a nearby house to call police. The guard who fired his gun was taken into custody.
