Funding cut could delay reporting of HAIs

Infection Control Monitor, June 22, 2007

A New Hampshire law, which was to take effect July 1, requires every hospital in the state to report the number and type of hospital-associated infections to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

However, a funding cut has put the new law in jeopardy the lawmaker who sponsored the measure told the Eagle-Tribune. State Rep. Howie Lund said the money needed to start the program was cut from the state budget.

Endangering the program is the fact that the money the governor included in his budget wasn't enough to fully fund the effort. Also, delaying the start-up is the lack of guidance from the federal government on what infections hospitals should track.
