CMS updates PQRI measure specs
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, June 19, 2007
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that they have updated their 2007 list of Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) measure specifications, according to the CMS Web site.
Although voluntary, the PQRI provides financial incentive for physicians to participate. The program allows providers to report as many as 74 different quality measures.
The CMS Web site states, "Eligible professionals who successfully report a designated set of quality measures on claims for dates of service from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2007, may earn a bonus payment, subject to a cap, of 1.5% of total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee schedule services."
CMS originally posted the list of quality measures on its Web site on April 1, and the newly updated list is available in the "downloads" section of the PQRI Web site here.
To view details of all 74 new measures, visit the PQRI Web site here.
Although CMS does not anticipate further measure changes, the measures are subject to alteration until July 1.
