Tip of the week: Identify the issue in question
Healthcare Security Weekly, June 18, 2007
When it comes to risk assessments, some risks, such as problems that will result from a new construction project, are often easy to spot and plan assessments for.
But a rash of incidents in your facility might also uncover a risk, says healthcare consultant and former surveyor Elizabeth DiGiacomo-Geffers, RN, MPH, CNAA, BC, of DiGiacomo-Geffers and Associates in Trabuco Canyon, CA. Something simple (e.g., multiple purses disappearing from offices or patient rooms) might point to a larger, more complex risk that you need to tackle.
Although formats can vary for risk assessments, the first step is always to recognize a risk, she says. To learn more about risk assessments, go to www.hcpro.com/ppv-71447.html. The cost is $10. Briefings on Hospital Safety subscribers received this story with their subscriptions.
