Online tool provides snapshot of states' healthcare performance

A new online tool provides state-specific performance information to assist in improving healthcare. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's State Snapshot tool condenses 129 quality measures into specific data that state governments can use to pinpoint which areas are succeeding and which need work. Stakeholders can log onto the tool and quickly see how their states are performing and where the gaps are. The tool provides an indicator of each state's overall healthcare quality compared to other states and its own past performance. It also shows how each state performs according to care settings, types of care, and clinical areas, and lists each state's strongest and weakest areas. The tool is based on data from the 2006 National Health Care Quality Report and the National Health Care Disparities Report and is available at statesnapshots.ahrq.gov.
