DC, Baltimore customers can better choose hospitals
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, June 8, 2007
Consumers in the Washington, DC, and Baltimore metropolitan areas will soon be able to find information about the quality of local hospitals online, allowing them to make better-informed decisions about their healthcare.
The Leapfrog Group, a national coalition of major healthcare purchasers is encouraging local hospitals to participate in the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, the results of which will be available to consumers in late June.
The Leapfrog Group has joined efforts with a group of private and public healthcare providers, including the Lockheed Martin Corporation, Marriott International, MidAtlantic Business Group on Health, and the Virginia Business Coalition on Health
As part of the Leapfrog Regional Roll-Out (RRO), 46 local hospitals are being asked to complete the survey and demonstrate progress toward achieving four quality and safety goals. The RRO is designed to reduce patient injuries or deaths, and is one of 32 others nationwide.
