Florida hospital pursues golden hour

Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, June 1, 2007

The Altamonte and Apopka branches of Florida Hospital have made a pledge that emergency room patients will see a doctor within one hour. Since it began May 1, the "60-minute promise" has seen success of 85% of the time or higher, and plans are already in the works to expand the pledge to patients at the health systemís seven other locations in central Florida.

Florida Hospital started the 60-minute promise at the Altamonte and Apopka campuses because they were most prepared to handle patients in an efficient manner. The Altamonte campus underwent an emergency room expansion in spring 2006 and there was a recent overhaul in emergency procedures at Apopka. Next, Florida Hospital will offer the service at Winter Park Memorial Hospital and eventually at its two most visited emergency departments: Florida Hospital Orlando and Florida Hospital East Orlando.
