Pennsylvania RHIO bites the dust

EHR Connection, June 11, 2007

The board for the Northeastern Pennsylvania RHIO last Wednesday voted to dissolve the organization, which was working to build a computerized database to exchange health information, the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reports.

The RHIO formed in July 2006 and had applied for nonprofit status with the Internal Revenue Service. But the estimated $26,000 necessary to cover the cost to achieve that designation was too much, and the board voted to shut down operations. Board member Sabatini Monatesti told the Times Leader that "The board made the decision because of the lack of community support and the lack of funding; they didn't feel they could incur any additional expense."
