Joint Commission partners with AORN on Time Out Day
Quality Improvement Monitor, June 8, 2007
The Joint Commission and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) have teamed up with The Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) on to observe National Time Out Day on June 20.
"Partnering on National Time Out Day from our surgical and accreditation partners symbolizes the collective effort required by every member of the surgical team to practice a time out and ensure correct patient, correct procedure, and correct site every time," AORN President Mary Jo Steiert, RN, BSN, CNOR, said in a press release on The Joint Commission's Web site. This is the fourth consecutive year AORN has sponsored this event to highlight The Joint Commission's mandated "time out" to verify the correct patient, correct procedure, and correct site before any surgery begins.
Surgical teams across the United States are encouraged to participate in National Time Out Day. AORN has developed a Correct Site Surgery Tool Kit to assist healthcare providers in implementing the Universal Protocol.
