Software could help diagnose more cases of depression
EHR Connection, June 4, 2007
Bilingual Instant Medical History (IMH) software helps physicians identify patients with depression, as well as any number of other chief complaints, reports the company. The company reports that 21% of patients that primary care physicians see are depressed, but only 1.25% of patients self-report that condition. More than a dozen vendors of EMR systems have IMH interfaced with their systems, but the service also is available to physicians without an EMR.
Patients tend to be more open with the computer, particularly with highly sensitive information, such as feelings of depression. Patients answer questions provided by the software, which physicians can make available to them for self-assessment in several ways.
