Government rejects NHIN proposals
EHR Connection, June 4, 2007
The federal government rejected all four Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) proposals, sending Accenture, CSC, IBM, and Northrop Grumman away empty-handed, reports eWeek.
The proposals were supposed to show how medical professionals, hospitals, laboratories, and pharmacies could share information in real time. After reviewing their proposals in January, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONHCIT) and part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared them insufficient. The agencies decided to take portions from each proposal and carry them into the final version, ONCHIT officials told eWeek.
The government will issue new requests for proposals in early June, and the agency expects to award a contract this summer.
