Former security guard sentenced in medical thefts

A former security guard at the
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to theft in February and was sentenced May 29. He told the judge he had a gambling addiction and researched what kinds of medical items were selling on eBay and then stole them.
The items included $10,000 gastroscopes, instruments that are inserted down the esophagus to view the stomach, the AP reported. He was not ordered to pay restitution. An assistant district attorney said many of the items were returned to the hospital and officials there could not estimate how much more was owed.
