CDC says eye infections linked to contact lens solution
Infection Control Monitor, June 1, 2007
A company recalled one of its contact lens solutions after the CDC last week issued a health alert about an outbreak of Acanthamoeba keratitis, a rare but serious eye infection.
It is the second time that a soft contact lens solution has been linked to eye infections in the past year. Advanced Medical Optics recalled its Complete MoisturePlus multipurpose solution after the CDC said people should stop using the solution and discard and replace their contact lenses and storage containers.
The CDC reported that 138 cases of Acanthamoeba had been confirmed, but some of those were not connected with the lens solution.
