Georgia healthcare receives $114 million boost

Managed Care Weekly Advisor, May 30, 2007

A new bill passed by Congress and signed by President Bush will send $114 million to Georgia's beleaguered PeachCare health insurance program for children of low-income working families, although enrollment will be frozen until further notice.

The bill was approved in connection with a $120 billion Iraq war funding bill, which Congress recently passed without troop withdrawal deadlines. In turn, Bush promised not to object to domestic expenditures, which includes money for the State Children's Health Insurance Program. PeachCare will receive $114 million of the approved $650 million.

Nearly 280,000 Georgia children are enrolled in PeachCare.
