Human Services Committee set to hear Illinois licensing bill

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, May 29, 2007

The Illinois Senate Public Health Committee revised and approved bill (SB 243) May 14, which would amend the Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act, according to the American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers Web site.

The AAASC reports that the bill obligates ASCs to do the following in order to receive or renew their license:

  • Receive approval for a plan for charity care by the Illinois General Assembly
  • Receive a notarized statement signed by the ASC's Chief Executive Officer certifying that the applicant will not refuse service to any patient because services sought by the patient are reimbursable by the Medical Assistance program
  • Create a plan for treating Medicaid recipients and medically undeserved patients

The Human Services Committee will hear the bill, sponsored by Senate democrats Carol Romen, Susan Garrett, and Kimberly A. Lightford, on May 23.
