AAH: Medicare has failed to combat fraud effectively

Managed Care Weekly Advisor, May 23, 2007

Tyler J. Wilson, president and CEO of the American Association for Homecare, said Medicare has ample authority and tools to combat fraud and that there is a clear need for transparent, up-to-date and fair federal regulations.

Wilson said the majority of homecare companies are legitimate businesses operated by law-abiding individuals, but that accreditation and enforcement of existing regulations are critical in preventing illegal providers from cheating the system. The American Association for Homecare said updated quality standards and unannounced site inspections can weed out possible problems.
