NQF endorses additional consensus standards for ambulatory care

Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, May 22, 2007

The National Quality Forum (NQF) declared its endorsement of further clinician-level national voluntary consensus standards for ambulatory care, according to a May 11 announcement on the NQF Web site. The AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) created 29 of the new 35 standards that providers will implement over a two-year period. Both organizations worked under a CMS contract.

This new report offers consensus standards for seven areas of care, including bone and joint conditions, eye care, geriatrics, emergency care, cardiac surgery, peri-operative care, and strokes. In addition to these categories, NQF endorsed nine research recommendations for additional thought and development.
