One in 10 affected by errors
Healthcare Strategist Trend Watch, May 4, 2007
Ten percent of patients worldwide are affected by medical errors, according to the World Health Organization. On May 2, the agency issued a checklist to help doctors and nurses avoid the most common mistakes.
The list, which has nine items, includes double-checking similar-sounding medication names; ensuring patients are correctly identified; and improving hand hygiene to avoid preventable infections, says MSNBC.
