As Santa Barbara goes, so goes the future of RHIOs?
EHR Connection, May 7, 2007
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's (HIMSS) April 2007 Vantage Point survey found that 76% of respondents predict that the closing of the Santa Barbara County Care Data Exchange indicates that other RHIOs will struggle in the near future. Nearly 40% of respondents report that operating costs are the biggest challenge facing RHIOs and 23% of respondents say stakeholder buy-in is a barrier. More than half of respondents report that RHIOs can either promote improved outcomes of care or improved patient safety, according to the survey. But only 11% of respondents believe that RHIOs will reduce the cost of healthcare delivery, reports HIMSS.
