Bank robber flees through nearby hospital

Healthcare Security Weekly, May 7, 2007

After robbing a Wichita, KS bank May 2, the suspect made his getaway through the nearby Wesley Medical Center, reported the Wichita Eagle.

The next day police arrested a 21-year-old Wichita man on suspicion of robbing the Intrust Bank. Security cameras showed that a man entered the hospital's critical care building, where he went into a bathroom and changed clothes, before walking out through a different door.

He didn't injure or threaten anyone during the three minutes or so it took him to walk through the hospital, a hospital spokeswoman told the newspaper. Police and hospital security staff checked the hospital to make sure he didn't remain in the facility, she said. Police recognized the suspect from security video.
